How Effective is Natural Healing?
You may not be aware of it, but your body has a tremendous capacity to heal you.
From anything.
So why doesn’t it?
Because you’re out of balance!
Once you’re back in natural balance, true natural healing is possible.
So what does out of balance mean, and how do you put yourself back into balance?
You only have to look as far as nature to see what natural balance is. Living the stressful life that is the mainstay of modern day human existence is probably the main contributing factor for your lack of balance.
I’m not necessarily promoting the idea that you give up your job and live in the bush. You can do anything and remain in natural balance.
It’s how you handle things that shows up your balance, or lack of.
Most people don’t handle things very well. You might get angry or defensive when someone criticises you. You don’t take enough ‘you’ time, time to relax or reflect. You may not be eating well. You may be partying and drinking too much.
Natural healing can only come about when you consider you as an entire entity. Your thoughts, your physical challenges, your feelings are all connected. If you have been taken physically ill, it’s more than likely because you didn’t listen to your inner self, which was telling you to slow down, or get another job, or get out of your current relationship.
When you don’t listen, something takes over and MAKES you listen. A spell in hospital may be the only way you will reflect on your life. That doesn’t sound very much like natural healing, I hear you say. And no it isn’t. But if the time and experience there makes you take stock and turn your life around, then it has been beneficial.
Herbal Medicine and Its Powerful Healing Properties

Did You Know That Herbal Medicine Is As Old As Time?
In the ancient world there were no medical doctors and when people became unwell they would go to the village elder with the knowledge of the healing effects of various plant leaves, stem, flower and root that grew wild in the local natural environment.
Medicine from herbs is one of oldest forms of healthcare. It has a long and respected history of plants and parts of the plant being used for medicinal purposes based on the observation and testing of indigenous people.
Use of leaves, flowers, stems, berries, and roots of plants to prevent, relieve, treat and cure various medical conditions is known as herbal medicine.
Many modern medications have been derived from the knowledge of herbs and their healing properties. The medicinal component of the plant, herb, root or berry is analyzed and isolated. This component is then artificially stabilized and manufactured in large laboratories for use in pharmaceutical preparations.
Before the discovery and synthesis of antibiotics, Echinacea was most widely administered medicine to fight infection. It was even part of the medical kit for the men going to war. Echinacea is a herb that comes from a plant, commonly known as, purple coneflower. The scientists’ research today have found that it has immune boosting properties by encouraging the body to produce disease fighting white blood cells.
In the 1900′s as the Western medicine developed, through scientific research from an art to a science, modern medicine produced in pharmaceutical laboratories based on synthetic counterparts of medicine made from herbs became more popular pushing the practice of ancient traditional herbal medicine into relative obscurity.
But the big problem is WHY do they have side effects?
Holistic Medicine: New Ways to Healing
Unlike most conventional medicine practices, holistic medicine seeks to treat all components of the human body, which include physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing. While not all alternative health care is widely accepted, a growing number of holistic medicine practices like massage therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic are definitely gaining leeway in modern society.
Where conventional medical wisdom addresses physical symptoms of a disease, holistic medicine attempts to treat the whole person and get to the root cause of the illness through natural and holistic therapies. Holistic medicine like chiropractic, for example, is a great alternative to sometimes invasive surgeries and other traditional pain treatments involving medications that can carry strong side effects. Using an X-ray to determine where “subluxations” exist along the spine, licensed chiropractors can help to realign these spinal disruptions through gentle and safe adjustments (to the spine). If you haven’t yet experienced a chiropractic treatment for your chronic back pain and headaches, you should speak with your primary care provider to determine if chiropractic might be right for you.
Another holistic medicine – acupuncture, is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and facilitates fine, hair-like needles that are placed along acu-points of the body. Believing in restoring “Chi” (energy flow) to the body, acupuncture is widely used in pain relief, quitting smoking, stress reduction, and is even used to help alleviate symptoms related to the affects of cancer treatments.
Massage therapy is a holistic medicine that probably has the greatest historical roots in ancient healing. Used for thousands of years, massage therapy has shown remarkable value in reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, and improving overall health and wellbeing. Specific therapies range from basic Swedish massage to more intricate massage modalities like Trigger Point therapy. This holistic medicine is comprised of over 80 bodywork treatments that can be tailored to meet specific health needs and goals.
Chinese Medicine Universities: Teaching Ancient Healing Arts
Find Chinese medicine universities in the United States and Canada. Chinese medicine universities teach healing arts that are derived from ancient Chinese medicine practices. Today, students enrolled in any number of Chinese medicine universities will discover exciting academic prospects through Master’s programs, certificate and diploma programs, and relative continuing education courses.
In any one of several Chinese medicine universities, students will be introduced to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theories and philosophies, Chinese medical terminology, TCM diagnosis; and Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. Depending on which one of the many Chinese medicine universities you choose to attend, you will find that most of these academic institutions extend classes in tuina (Chinese medical massage), moxibustion (cupping), acupressure, shiatsu and basic herbal medicine. These sometimes elective subjects are frequently integrated into main courses of study, such as acupuncture and Oriental medicine programs; but may also be afforded as separate certificate and/or diploma programs. In addition, many Chinese medicine universities will provide continuing education to students wishing to maintain licensure, and/or to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge in the diverse fields of Chinese and Oriental medicine. Some associated studies taught through Chinese medicine universities may also include training in Tai Chi, meridian therapies, and related Oriental massage techniques.
Training programs at Chinese medicine universities cover a broad spectrum of natural and other healing arts. However, in addition to traditional Chinese medicine instruction, students enrolled in acupuncture and Oriental medicine courses will learn about anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, plant chemistry and a wide assortment of related subjects of study. Furthermore, many Chinese medicine universities do require some formal education prior to entry into any one of their more advanced courses, such as that of Doctor of Oriental medicine or Acupuncturist.
Alternative Medicine ? Healing Comes From Within
Many people don’t feel good, but don’t really know why. They complain of “unexplained” symptoms such as chronic fatigue, over-weight, depression, memory loss, fibromyalgia, food cravings, headaches, muscle and joint pain, arthritis, intractable back pain, heartburn, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, mood swings, rashes, itching, allergies, attention deficit, dyslexia, hearing and vision loss, balance problems, high blood pressure, insomnia, …the list goes on. Standard medical tests show little or nothing. Many of my patients have reported over the years that their MD’s either ignore these symptoms or give vague explanations such as:
It is because of your age
You just have to live with it
It’s all in your head
It is stress
It is genetic
It is…
What this really means: nobody knows how to determine the cause for all these symptoms.
Allopathic Medicine
Over the past decades traditional western allopathic medicine has come up with extraordinary number of pharmaceutical drugs in order to fight an extraordinary number of diseases. It seemed in the past, and it still appears that way today, that if we only could come up with the right chemical compound we could eventually conquer and eliminate any disease under the sun. This quest for the “Silver Bullet” continues.
Chronic Illness
Somehow, we seem to have missed the mark. With the amount of medication consumed in the USA one would assume that we are the healthiest people on the planet. However, we have more chronic diseases than ever. Even though our life span has been increased, our quality of life has not. Healthy aging eludes many of us. Diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disorders, allergies, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, depression abound.
